It does not kill on contact, the intensity of UVC light is too low. In addition, the more you use it, the less UVC is emitted and the bulbs will have to be replaced annually. For you to truly destroy ALL micro organisms (virus, bacteria, mold) on just a pillow surface, you will have to hold the Verilux at every square inch of the pillow for 30 mins at a time. Thus, you would be standing, holding this unit for probably 4-6 hours to truly clean your pillow. You know what's easier, steam cleaning or taking the laundry and washing it. Or using a UVC system design for air treatment installed in your Air Conditioning System. Marketing over hypes the science behind UVC and leads customers to believe in products they shouldn't. I believe Verilux sent me a returned unit. I plugged the unit in and charged it for the rest of the day and all night before I used it. The first time I used the sanitizing wand it lasted a little over a hour. When the battery is fully charged it will not remain that way for long unless you use the sanitizing wand immediately. If you wait until the next day to use the sanitizing wand it will only last several minutes. I was surprised, I believe it actually works. There's no way to tell for sure but the surface of the area that you hold the UV light over does get warm and has a static freshness sort of smell to it after you've held it there for awhile. Very handy on anything made of fabric like chairs, benches, etc that are hard to clean otherwise.The shortcomings: 1) no low battery indicator 2) lack of a proper rack or case to store it in. It's reasonable fragile due to the UV light and it's large and a bit bulky so storing it is difficult. I found a broomstick wall hanger that I hung mine one. Also, although the UV light is away from you, I felt like it might not be healthy to be exposed to it constantly so I bought some blue UV protection glasses which have been a nice addition to my green cleaning regiment. |
